Voices

I am a rationalist at heart.  I see a problem, and I tackle it with logic, research, and zeal.  And for sure, that can be important.  I am immensely grateful for everyone who reads my work and have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to my work.  I want to say thank you to all of you.

But, as I have always insisted, mine is not the most important voice.  I can speak to my hurt, but as a male I am immensely privileged, often in ways that are only evident to me in retrospect.  Thus, while I feel my words are important, it is infinitely more important we hear the words of the oppressed and disenfranchised “others” that are often so silent in our churches.  It is for this reason, I want to direct you elsewhere today.

Earlier today, Julie Anne of Spiritual Sounding board asked a simple question, “What Was the Last Straw that Caused You to Leave Your Abusive Church?”  The stories have poured in and each is absolutely heartbreaking.  Thus, I beg of you, if you reject every single one of my arguments against Complementarianism, please consider these voices, these stories.  These are the reason I write, and they say it better than I ever could.

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
Matthew 25:40
